February 13, 2023

The second stage of VENTURA, a platform for professional training, project development and industry meetings, for filmmakers and producers from all over the world, organised by the Play-Doc film festival, was held from January 23th to 29th 2023.

This intensive writing residency, was the continuation of a professional training and project development programme offered to filmmakers and producers representing the six Spanish projects selected for the first edition of VENTURA.

The residency took place at Finca Remesal in Tui, Galicia, an ideal space for the development of creative work, peaceful, paradisiacal, and in full communion with nature, and was directed by the renowned expert in project mentoring Marta Andreu.

Marta Andreu has extensive experience in laboratories and residencies around the world, including Eurodoc, Torino Film Lab, Open Doors, DocNomads and DocMontevideo, among many others. She also coordinated and programmed the Master in Creative Documentary at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona from 2001 to 2016, and since 2010 she has been a member of the project selection committee for the Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund.

The residency was also overseen by Paolo Benzi, lead tutor of the Emerging Producers programme at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (Czech Republic), as well as the Rough Cut Lab of the Vision du Réel (Switzerland), who has produced work by filmmakers like Miguel Gomes, Roberto Minervini, Alessandro Comodin and Sergei Loznitsa, amongst others.

VENTURA has successfully concluded the first two stages productively. The objective of these two parts has been to prepare the representatives of the selected six Spanish projects to participate in the third and final stage, an international co-production forum, which will take place from March 8th to 9th. Here, the six national projects will pitch alongside six international projects for an award of €10,000 in cash, and other prizes in services. During the this market, producers and filmmakers will also have the opportunity to meet individually with a select group of professionals from around the world where they can find funding and further visibility to their films in production.

Carla Andrade, Alejandro Tarraf, Chiara Marañón and Juan Soto Taborda, Andrés Duque, Sebastián Uría, Pela del Álamo, Pilar Monsell, Felipe Lage, Luis Ferrón, Ricard Sales, Sandra Tabarés Duque, Olaia Ledo and Oliver Laxe comprise the names representing the selected national projects.

The call for international projects ended on January 20th and the selected projects, as well as the experts and the jury that will participate in the third phase will be announced shortly.
