VENTURA announces the Spanish projects selected for its second edition

November 13, 2023

The call for international projects is still open until November 26th

Five Spanish projects have been selected for the second edition of the new training, development and co-production platform, VENTURA, whose aim is to offer comprehensive support to filmmakers and producers from all over the world. Created by the Enfoques Cultural Association, organiser of Play-Doc festival that takes place in Tui, Galicia, VENTURA aims to enhance the creative talent of the participants and provide them with the tools and skills necessary to carry out their projects in a professional and competitive manner.

The organisation underscores the high quality and diversity of the works received. After a difficult selection process, of more than 200 applications, the five projects that have been selected to participate in this second edition of VENTURA are: Ari, directed and produced by Maider Oleaga; La mala gent, directed by Amat Vallmajor and produced by Julieta Juncadella and Silvia Cruz; Querer vivir un grito, directed by Diana Toucedo and produced by Alba Sotorra and Andrea Vázquez; Se van sus naves, directed by Óscar Vincentelli and produced by Elisa Celda and Todo es cárcel, directed by Eloy Enciso and produced by Marina Perales and Fran Ruvira.

The wide variety of proposals, the presence of filmmakers from different generations, different stylistic interrogations and different geographical origins, as well as the confluence of projects at different stages of development, highlights the variety and multiplicity of views that characterise current Spanish cinema, which the platform aims to reflect.

The representatives of these five projects will participate in the first two stages consisting of professional training with renowned experts from around the world and an intensive writing residency under the tutelage of the prestigious Argentine filmmaker and teacher Mariano Llinás, director of La flor and screenwriter of Argentina 1985.

The third stage, in which both national and international projects will participate, will take place between January 20th and 21st, and will be organised as a series of meetings between those selected and a prestigious group of international industry professionals made up of producers, distributors, sales agents and members of film commissions, as well as representatives of international funds, markets and festivals.

All participants will present their projects to a prestigious international jury that will award a prize of €10,000, plus other prizes in services (sound, visual effects, DCP-making, national and international distribution) valued at €50,000 offered by partners and collaborating companies.

The call for international projects is still open

The call for the selection of international projects for the second edition of VENTURA remains open until November 26th 2023. The platform accepts projects from any country, regardless of their stage of development, production or post-production, with no restrictions regarding length, format or film genre.
A total of five projects will be selected from among all the international projects entered in this new edition, which will take part in the third and final phase of VENTURA. This phase, corresponding to the International Co-Production Forum, which includes a series of meetings, pitching sessions and cash prizes and services, will take place between January 20th and 21st 2024, in Tui, Galicia.

VENTURA aims to be a space for encounter and internationalisation, encouraging the participation of producers and filmmakers from other latitudes, as was evident in its first edition, which welcomed the presence of renowned European and Latin American filmmakers such as Alessandro Comodin, Maureen Fazendeiro, Ognjen Glavonic, Camilo Restrepo and Ben Rivers, whose films have been programmed in the most prestigious international festivals over the last decade.
