João Pedro Rodrigues, writing residency tutor
The first stage of VENTURA will take place from 3 to 7 November 2025 and will consist of a writing residency led by the acclaimed Portuguese filmmaker João Pedro Rodrigues —author of films such as O Fantasma, Odete, Morrer Como um Homem, O Ornitólogo and Fogo-Fátuo—, whose work has been recognized at Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno.
Rodrigues returns as main mentor, providing creative guidance to the seven selected Galician projects. The filmmaker emphasized the importance of preserving freedom and individuality in the creative process, in contrast to the growing standardization of labs and residencies:
“What interests me is to look at and listen to each person’s individual creativity. I have no formula or lesson to teach. I like finding spaces for discussion and exchange (and disagreement) that also help me think about my own work —to keep believing in freedom” says Rodrigues.
A three-stage programme
After this first residency phase, VENTURA will continue with an online professional training stage, taking place from 19 to 23 January 2026, with international experts in financing, co-production, distribution, marketing and audience design; and will conclude with the International Co-Production Meetings, on 30 April 2026 in Tui, a day dedicated to project presentations and one-to-one meetings with producers, distributors, sales agents, funds and festivals.
The experts participating in these stages will be announced soon.
VENTURA’s goal is to support and strengthen Galician creative talent, providing participants with the tools and knowledge to develop their projects competitively, expand their professional networks and enhance the international visibility of Galician cinema.
A platform for growth and international visibility
Over its three previous editions, VENTURA has established itself as a platform for nurturing and promoting auteur-driven projects, which later took part in prestigious labs and forums such as TorinoFilmLab, FIDLab, VdR–Film Market and CineMart, and went on to screen at major international festivals such as Cinéma du Réel, FIDMarseille and Locarno.
VENTURA is made possible with the support of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (AGADIC) and the City Council of Tui.
